Teas By Design ? Blog Archive ? Apple Adds 'Food & Drink ...

If youre looking for an app to enhance your culinary skills, the App Store has got you covered. But with some 650,000 apps currently available in the App Store, finding the perfect one can be a challenge.

Apple this week made it a bit easier to find apps to help you grub well with the addition of a Food amp; Drink category to its App Store. The new section includes thousands of apps that relate to food and drinks, recipes, and cooking. It does not, however, include apps related to dieting, shopping, and coupons.

Food amp; Drink joins other App Store categories like Books, Entertainment, Productivity, and Games. The section currently ranks the Food Network app ($1.99) as the top paid app, followed by Allrecipies.com Dinner Spinner Pro ($2.99), and gluten-free recipe app FastPaleo ($0.99) as No. 3. Rounding out the top five are Local Eats ($0.99) and Map Muses Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives Locator ($2.99).

The category also prominently features apps related to grilling, cocktails, and craft beer. Like the other app categories, the Food amp; Drink section also shows the top free apps, and the most recently released. The Starbucks app is currently listed as the top free app, followed by Urbanspoon, and Dominos Pizza USA.

Apple last week informed developers that a new Food amp; Drink category would be making its way to the App Store soon, according to MacStories. The App Store previously did not have a category for these types of apps, which were typically listed under the Lifestyle category. Apple reportedly told developers in an email that the new category will include apps to help users cook and bake, mix drinks, manage recipes, find new restaurants and bars, and learn what their friends like to eat and drink.

One food-related app you might consider downloading is Uber. The taxi service on Friday is launching an on-demand ice cream truck in seven cities in the US and Canada.
